Professional Path / Career

1997–2018: has gone/went from a Planning Economist to the Director of Economics and Finance at Voronezh Mechanical Plant.

2018–2019: Head of JSC “Khrunichev SRPSC” branch in Voronezh — Director of Voronezh Mechanical Plant.

2019–July 2020: Executive Director of JSC KBKhA.

July 2020 — to date: Director of JSC KBKhA.

A considerable work has been undertaken under the direct leadership of S.V. Kovalev to merge two teams of KBKhA and VMP into one enterprise with more than 6000 employees.

Under the direction of S.V. Kovalev the enterprise continues to simultaneously carry out serial production of a number of liquid rocket engines operated as part of “Proton-M”, “Soyuz”, “Soyuz-2.1b”, “Soyuz-2.1v” and “Soyuz-ST-B” space-launch vehicles, “Angara” launch vehicles family, Blok DM-2 and Blok DM-03 upper stages; produces combustion chambers of liquid-propellant rocket engine RD-191 for “Angara” launch vehicles family; creates “Combustion chambers” and “Titanium spherical tanks” Competence Centers for production of the relevant products not only for internal needs but for other enterprises of the rocket and space industry.

The reconstruction and technical re-equipment works on the enterprise are also carried out under the direction of S.V. Kovalev, including realization of advanced research and development activities such as: creation of a new oxygen-hydrogen engine RD0146D for upper stage of “Angara-A5” heavy-lift launch vehicle, new oxygen-kerosene engine RD0124 MS for “Soyuz-5” launch vehicle, development of new oxygen-methane engines for advanced Russian reusable rocket and space systems, electric propulsion engines for space vehicles, creation of scientific and technical groundwork for engines for a new Russian super heavy-lift launch vehicle.

The production of a wide range of oil and gas equipment, complex units for diesel locomotive engines and other civil products is also successfully developed.
